This happens when you are exposed to the environmental pollutants and you can also have itchy eyes because of a medication you are taking.  Those people who suffer from allergies can also have eyes that itch and this can be very uncomfortable.  You might experience itchy eyes after swimming in a chlorinated pool but this itch is temporary and considered mild eye irritation.

If your eyes feel dry, then you are not producing enough liquid to  properly lubricate your eyes. If you wear the wrong contact lenses, you can get dry eyes or if the solution you clean your lenses in is wrong, that too can be a cause. When the membrane that surrounds the eyes gets inflamed, you have a condition called conjunctivitis. Pet hairs, dust mites and even mold can also cause eye irritations.
