So you feel that Susie and Jack are finally old enough to really enjoy a camping weekend, but when you look over your gear it looks as if it was made in the Stone Ages. You’re a veteran camper and you know good and well that having the right camping equipment makes a world of difference – so before you head out, first have a look at how your camping style has changed.

Your ultra-light solo tent will have to stay home this time. You’re thinking more towards getting a new multi-room family tent so that the kids are close by but you still have a bit of privacy. You’ve heard there can be some fierce wind gusts where you’re heading so you make a note to read reviews and specifications on any you look over.

You let the kids choose their sleeping bags; all they see are the pretty colours, but you keep an eye out for quality craftsmanship and the appropriate temperature ratings as well. No matter how warm it gets in the day that 4am temperature drop can get chilly so you want to make sure your family comes home from their first camping experience excited to be planning their next outing.

Regarding cooking gear you’re still in pretty good shape, but that tiny single burner stove will need to be traded in for a double or you’re going to have a very hungry crew on your hands. Pots and pans? Check! Hiking gear? Yes! Now you’re all set to share your love of the great outdoors with your children. Enjoy!

One of the latest and most successful trends in tourism is in letting families call the shots, if you will. When each family member has different interests it can be incredibly difficult to keep everyone happy. Thankfully the travel industry recognises this quandary and has created a series of a la carte booking packages.

The way it works is you decide on a location, style of accommodation and length of stay. Say you choose a villa in the English countryside (get those kids out into the fresh air!) – you then decide on the particulars of what sounds entertaining to the family as a group and also as individuals. Seriously, if Mum wants to have a day at the Spa whilst Dad goes fishing, whom does it harm? They can all still dine together, go dancing, learn kayaking together, do Yoga – any number of fun activities. But the great part is that you won’t be doing what you don’t want to be doing. What a novel concept!

The beauty of this style of vacation is that you won’t be forced to be active if you prefer to laze by the pool, and you won’t have to go stir crazy with “too much nature” if you prefer to have more excitement during your holiday.

There are numerous options for the English countryside and forest holidays – a quick search of the Web should find you some spectacular deals at affordable prices and seemingly limitless flexibility. Why be saddled with an antiquated form of vacationing? You’re a modern family that prides itself on being a group of intelligent individuals; isn’t it about time you found a holiday that can adequately reflect that?

Novartis is excited to showcase the best Lamisil® video’s featured at the Mofilm Tribeca awards this year. These videos are especially remarkable in their ability to make feet top-of-mind in a fun and engaging way.

This year Lamisil for Athlete’s Foot was one of seven global brands that worked with Mofilms to support aspiring filmmakers showcase their creative talent. The top five Lamisil entries were entered into the New York, Tribeca Film Festival where Llyod Choi and Simon Yang’s ‘Be proud of your Feet’ went on to win the Grand Prize! An amazing feat.

“Be Proud of Your Feet,” features a young man showing how many things you can actually use your feet for. He seems to get his feet out whenever he can with hilarious consequences. It was the overall winner from seven winning videos of a number of different international brands.
Lloyd Choi, said, “The Lamisil brief really struck me as something that represented a challenge. You don’t normally see such an interesting mix of briefs in film making competitions and Lamisil sparked our imagination.”
Young filmmakers have big ideas and the top four winning videos look at Lamisil curing Athlete’s Feet in a number of humorous and insightful ways. The Mofilm competition was an experiment for Lamisil, and we are delighted with the quality of content we received.

Competitors from all over the globe were given just six week to complete a video for leading international brands. Hundreds of people chose to answer Lamisil’s challenge to build awareness of Athlete’s foot and convince sufferers that it’s worth treating, with some very surprising and engaging results.

Most children begin stuttering when they are around two to five years old. Stuttering is characterized by the interruption of speech. Parents usually first notice the condition when the child repeat or prolong certain syllables and words. Sometimes, the child may stop and be silent for certain words. In most cases, children will become fluent once they are beyond five. However, without prompt and effective treatment, some may continue to stutter even when they become adults.

To begin therapy, the parents first have to identify the stuttering problem. When a two-year old child stutters, the parents should not be too concerned. However, if the condition worsens, parents should take the child to a professional speech-language therapist for an evaluation when the child turns three. If the parents did not take the child for an evaluation and the child continues to stutter when he/she is five, the parents should immediately contact a doctor a a speech-language therapist. Other signs that require professional therapy include excessive repetition of complete words or phrases, vocal tension in pitch or loudness, avoidance of speech, and increased prolongations of words.

Currently, there is no single cure for stuttering once the condition has set in. There are, however, many effective means to prevent the condition from worsening. Children who receive therapies from speech-language pathologists at an early age will have the chance to be cured. Therapies usually entail making changes in the speaking manner. One of the more popular therapies is the Lidcombe Program. The child’s parents or carer needs to take an active role in this program since they are required to administer the treatment they learn from weekly visits at the speech-language pathologist’s office. It is more helpful if the stuttering child is also seeing a counselor regularly to discuss his/her emotional and psychological pressure about speech.

Make regular appointments to your child’s paediatrician. Kids, especially those below 2 years of age require more trips to the doctor. During this span of time, the development of your child is at its most precarious and you should get all the expert help you can get. During the first two years is also the time for vaccination shots that are very important for your kids’ health. Strictly adhere to the schedule of each and every vaccination because the efficacy of vaccines is dependent on the timely administration of each dose. See to it that you have a budget for these necessities.

Keep a clean environment for your child. Babies are more susceptible to infections than adults so it is very important to keep them away from anything that is unclean. Sterilize their bottles, pacifiers, and their toys. Kids, especially those who are just starting to teeth will most likely be putting things on their mouths so keep all things that are within their reach germ free.

Be cautious of anything that your kid ingests be it their formula, vitamins, or food. They may be allergic to any one of these so always be on guard and watch out for symptoms of allergy or severe discomfort. Always consult your health care provider before introducing anything to your baby.

An alarming number of children suffer obesity and if ignored, more than 80 percent of them will remain overweight as adults. This will surely put them in great risk for so many medical problems. High blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, and high cholesterol are just to name a few.

Obesity also affects their relationship with others and self-esteem. If no move is taken, this may lead to additional serious consequences like depression and anxiety.

As they say, prevention is better than cure. Don’t let you kids gain too much weight. Exercise good eating habits and encourage them to participate in different physical activities.

Nowadays, it’s hard to keep the children interested in physical activities. Part of the dilemma is the technology. Don’t let them to spend too much time on tv and video games.

While they are still young, teach them how to take care of themselves by promoting physical fitness in your home.

Start with simple warm up exercises like walking, jumping jacks, stretching, or bending for five minutes to warm them up. This will also prevent from injury as they move to harder exercise.

After the warm up, slowly introduce them to more active body movements like jogging, swimming, biking, or group activities like basketball or tennis. Do this at least three times a week for fifteen to forty minutes a day.

Impart to them the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle and set a good example to them. In the long run, they will grow up following that path of healthy living.
