Holidays, although supposedly relaxing, can also be a stressful time. Being away from home and the familiarity of normal procedures can be a nightmare if for instance someone you are travelling with suffers from an injury.

If you or someone that you are travelling with is unfortunate enough to suffer an accident abroad, there are many things that you can do. Firstly, if you are travelling as part of a package holiday there should be a representative of the travel company present. Approach them and ask their advice. If you believe that there may be grounds for a claim for compensation, try to record as much evidence of what actually happened as possible. Photographs and witness statements can prove invaluable in these circumstances.

When you return home, speak to your travel company about what happened. Instances such as these are why you should always make sure that you have adequate travel insurance. Having an injury is bad enough. Having to deal with a large hospital bill would just add insult to injury.
